ALDEN BAPTIST CHURCH CONVENES

LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

On Saturdays, during the months of January and February, The Alden Baptist Church has embarked upon a ‘Leadership Summit.’  Their theme of ‘Lead where you are’ has inspired the congregation to begin to do just that. Led by their Pastor, the Reverend J. Willard Cofield, the Summit has been a wonderful spiritual journey.

Ten members of the church, including Reverend Cofield, attended The Leadership Summit, sponsored by the Willow Creek Association, which was held at the First Cathedral in Bloomfield, CT in August 2008. They were moved by the presentations and believed the Lord was leading them to bring the Summit to Alden. And with much prayer, guidance by The Holy Spirit and Pastor Cofield, the Leadership Summit was brought to Alden in January.

On March 7th and 8th, Alden is inviting the community to join with them in worship in the culmination of their Leadership Summit. Saturday, March 7th, service will begin at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday morning March 8th, service will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The guest preacher for each worship service will be Reverend Efrem Smith, Senior Pastor of The Sanctuary Covenant Church, Minneapolis, MN. Reverend Smith was one of the presenters at the Summit in August. He is a young, dynamic speaker/preacher who uses storytelling, comedy and passion to present the gospel of Jesus Christ.             Reverend Smith is the Urban Ministry Director of Minnesota Fellowship of Christian Athletes, member of the CORE seminar training team of Youth Specialties, and former Executive Director of The Park Avenue Foundation. He is the author of Raising Up Young Heroes and the Hip-Hop Church. He serves close to 1,000 people with the vision to be an urban, multi-ethnic, relevant, holistic, and Christ-centered community.

The community is invited to worship with the Alden Baptist Church and hear Reverend Efrem Smith share the call on his life to lead in new cultural realities. “For the Church to bring the gospel into our postmodern world, we must wrestle not only with our culture, but also its subcultures of hip-hop and multiculturalism.”

A special reception with Reverend Smith for Pastors and their spouses will also be held. To register for this reception, please call the church at (413) 736-5997.

If you have any questions, please call Carolyn Mutcherson at 733-5476.  n
