Families Encouraged to Register Children with Developmental Delays
SPRINGFIELD, MA – This Fall, the Department of Physical Therapy at American International College (AIC) will be hosting a Pediatric Physical Therapy Clinic for the Springfield community.
AIC physical therapy (PT) students, under supervision from faculty, will work with children ages one month to ten years, diagnosed with developmental delays, in enhancing their function and mobility. These services will be offered at no cost.
Common pediatric diagnoses being studied by the PT students include developmental delay, low muscle tone (hypotonia), torticollis, plagiocephaly, cerebral palsy, myelodysplasia (spina bifida), autism, developmental coordination disorder, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscle atrophy, pediatric spinal cord injuries, pediatric brain injuries, cancer with gross motor impairments, limb deficiencies and amputations, cystic fibrosis, congenital heart conditions, and some genetic conditions with gross motor impairments.
The sessions will take place at the Colaccino Center for Health Sciences at AIC, at 1020 State Street in Springfield. Four sessions will be held on Wednesdays October 18 and 25, and November 1 and 8 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all four sessions to maximize the benefits of this program. Registration for this free clinic is required, and the deadline to sign up is 9:00 a.m. on October 13, 2023.
