Black Men of Greater Springfield, Inc. Hold Unity Grant Award Ceremony

Springfield – The Black Men of Greater Springfield, Inc. (BMOGS) held its annual Unity Grant Award Ceremony on June 13, 2024.
During the ceremony, the BMOGS organization distributed more than $20,000 to 21 community-based organizations. This initiative reflects BMOGS’s commitment to supporting and uplifting grassroots efforts that promote unity and progress within the Springfield community. BMOGS has provided grants of this nature for more than 15 years.
In addition to the grant distributions, BMOGS presented the inaugural Art Jones Community Service Award to Mattie Jenkins. Jenkins has dedicated her life to advocating for civil rights and community empowerment. From her involvement in the Montgomery Bus Boycotts to her role as the Parent Involvement Specialist at William N. DeBerry School, Jenkins exemplifies the spirit of service and dedication.
“The Unity Grant Award Ceremony is a testament to the power of community collaboration and grassroots initiatives,” said My-Ron Hatchett, vice president of the BMOGS and chairperson of the Unity Grant Award Ceremony. “We are honored to recognize the contributions of Ms. Mattie Jenkins and our grant recipients, who are working tirelessly to uplift and empower our community.”
Award Recipients include the following community-based organizations: Brotherhood on the Move, Drama Studios, Hickory Street Harambee, ING and Company, Indian Orchard Citizens Council, It’s Your Turn, Men of Honor, Mig’s Youth Development, New Year Better Us, No Small Victories, Noble Warriors, Olive Tree Book Store, One Village, Inc., Pan African Historical Museum, Primus Mason Economic and Sustainable Development, Sam Goody Aces, Seeds of a Father, Serving our Students, The Royals, Inc., Wake Up Movement, and Youth Social Educational Training, Inc. ■
