Community Music School of Springfield (CMSS) is pleased to announce that Children’s Chorus of Springfield has been invited to perform for Governor Maura Healey at the State House on December 11, 2023 for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event will take place at the State House in Boston beginning at 5:00 pm, when 45 of the CCS singers, ages six to eighteen, will perform inside on the Grand Staircase beginning at 5:30 pm.

Children’s Chorus of Springfield is directed by CMSS vocal faculty Laurie Ellington, and includes over 50 young people from Springfield and the surrounding areas ages 6-18. Willow Street Chorus is for the youngest singers, grade 1-4, Neighborhood Chorus for grades 5-8 and City Chorus for singers grade 9 and up. Singing in a chorus is a joyful experience, one that combines creativity and self-expression with the ability to build skills and memories that last a lifetime. In addition to singing great music with beautiful tone and musical and artistic sensitivity, CCS students grow in confidence, have opportunities to collaborate, and perform within and outside of Springfield.

“We are so honored to be invited to bring our wonderful Children’s Chorus singers to Boston to perform for the holiday ceremony” said Eileen McCaffery, Executive Director of Community Music School of Springfield. “I am beyond excited and humbled by the honor of being asked to perform there. I know our singers are going to shine and enchant and delight anyone who hears them. We will be singing a blend of music from gospel to jazz to folk songs, and will close with a special message of peace, which comes directly from the children” said CCS Director Laurie Ellington.

The event is free and open to the public. Event begins at 5pm at the State House on 24 Beacon Street, Boston and concludes at 7pm. All are welcome.
