Consequences of Our Actions

Share this:

We all experience moments when our feelings control our actions. But how often do we truly consider the ripple effect of those actions? How do our choices impact those around us?
We can hurt people even when we don’t plan to. And just because we don’t mean to hurt someone does not mean that we are not responsible for the hurt we created.
During our everyday routine, it’s easy to underestimate the consequences of our actions. Whether it’s the words we speak, our decisions or our paths, every action sets off a ripple effect, often reaching farther than we anticipate. So, it’s important to pause and consider the impact our choices have on ourselves and others.
Our actions are potent. They have the power to uplift or tear down, to inspire or discourage. Our seemingly insignificant actions can trigger unforeseen consequences that can either positively or very negatively change our lives for years to come.
Each time you find yourself at a crossroads, remember to beware of the effects of your actions. Whether big or small, every action carries weight. They shape our lives in ways both seen and unseen. Choose wisely, because through conscious action or deliberate inaction, we can find ourselves wondering how we landed where we are. Remember that the effects of our actions are profound and they all have consequences!
Everything we think, say and do has consequences for us and others. And even though our actions are irreversible, they are great learning and growing opportunities.
Consequences are where our thoughts and actions meet reality. We can’t always foresee the consequences of our actions. Trying to be sure we are doing the right thing most of the time is a good mark for us to aim for. We can resolve to try to choose the actions that lead to happiness, avoiding selfish actions and choosing ones that have beneficial consequences for all involved.
Regardless of your position in life—parent, teacher, politician, businessperson, clergy, student, etc., we need to take full responsibility for ourselves and our actions. When we do, we grow and learn how to act in wise, practical and creative ways.
We may need to patiently train ourselves out of the habits of the way we have been living. Having self-control over our thoughts, feelings and actions is necessary for success in life. Self-control often means overriding our habitual impulses. We can work to stop acting impulsively or recklessly, especially when seeking pleasure or excitement. Some pleasures may bring pain and suffering that take much longer to heal than we imagined.
I can honestly say that taking responsibility for our actions is empowering. We open the opportunity and the freedom to shape our own lives. Realize that you are the manager of your life. We have the power to change ourselves and our lives! And don’t fool yourself. Everything we do affects how our life unfolds. Changing our attitude and behavior is within our control. Changing the attitudes and behavior of others is not. So, stay focused on “doing you”.
Realize that the consequences of our actions will sometimes cause us to regret them. But resolve to avoid such actions in the future. We need to accept and forgive ourselves. Acceptance and forgiveness allow us to move forward. Don’t dwell on the past. It serves no real purpose.
Take responsibility. Consequences of our actions matter! ■
