SPRINGFIELD DISTRICT COURT ASSISTANT CLERK-MAGISTRATE DANIELLE L. WILLIAMS CONFIRMED AS A DISTRICT COURT JUDGE IN A UNANIMOUS VOTE
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. —The Governor’s Council confirmed Springfield District Court Assistant Clerk-Magistrate Danielle L. Williams as a District Court judge in a unanimous vote on Oct. 28, 2020. Williams who was nominated by Gov. Charlie Baker is the first woman of color to be appointed to this position in Western Massachusetts and fills a seat vacated by Judge Patricia T. Poehler. Williams will be sworn in as a District Court Judge on November 25, 2020 in Springfield, MA.
Williams started her legal career in Springfield and has worked locally for many years. She currently serves as Assistant Clerk Magistrate for Springfield District Court and 2016 she was Assistant Attorney General in AG Maura T. Healey’s Government Bureau. Williams was an associate with the Northampton law firm Fierst, Bloomberg, Ohm LLP and was Assistant District Attorney in Hampden County from 2003 to 2007. In an article in Mass Lawyers Weekly, Councilors Mary E. Hurley and Marilyn M. Petitto Devaney lauded Williams and expressed approval over the appointment. Williams is also enthusiastic to step into her new role and says: “I am thankful for the confidence Governor Baker, the Governor’s Council and my colleagues have placed in me and I look forward to serving the people of Western Massachusetts.
A longtime resident of Wilbraham Ma, Williams graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and earned her juris doctorate from Western New England University School of Law.
Williams has a history of volunteerism and service to the local community. She is a founding board member of Springfield Prep Charter School. She is also president of the Springfield chapter of The Links Incorporated and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She also served on the Board of the Community Legal Aid. She was a recipient of BusinessWest’s 40 Under 40 award. Williams is the daughter of Yvonne L. Williams and William E. Williams (deceased) and sister of Robert Williams of Wilbraham Ma.
