The days may be getting shorter here in New England, but the work taking place at Art For the Soul Gallery never stops. Although we are three months away from the new year, the gallery is already looking forward to acclaimed artist Garry Hallgren’s upcoming exhibit, “Cartoon Intersection,” and welcoming new and familiar faces to the Board, along with our Friends of the Gallery & AFTS Ambassador programs.

Celebrating Asian Heritage & Culture at Art For the Soul
On October 5th, the Art For the Soul Gallery hosted A Vibrant Tapestry of Art and Heritage: AAPI Cultures in Western Mass, celebrating the rich diversity of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. Taking place in Tower Square, next to the gallery, the event kicked off with a lively performance by the Springfield Lion Dance group. It featured cultural presentations from China, the Philippines, India and Vietnam, showcasing the beauty and traditions of each country through art, fashion and storytelling. Attendees were treated to a range of live performances, from Hawaiian and Chinese dances to a Bollywood medley, highlighting the vibrant cultural expressions of AAPI heritage.
The celebration concluded with hands-on art and cultural activities, including calligraphy and painting workshops, as well as a traditional costume fashion walk, where participants proudly displayed their heritage. With AAPI-inspired culinary delights to enjoy, the event fostered connection and understanding, leaving a lasting impact on attendees as they reflected on the significance of AAPI contributions to the cultural fabric of Western Massachusetts. A special thank you to Linda Hill for bringing this event to the heart of downtown Springfield. This event and other programs are made possible from generous donations from the Barr Foundation, Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, the Springfield Cultural Council, and the Springfield Cultural Partnership
