Outdoor Exhibit Showcase | Open to the public
Wistariahurst Museum is excited to announce the return of our popular outdoor display, Faces on the Fenceline. This outdoor, walking exhibit in the front of the museum features people from our Black Holyoke Project and throughout the Commonwealth. Visitors can use QR Codes provided with each portrait to delve deeper into the impactful stories of these remarkable figures. Guests can also learn more information about the Black Holyoke Project and prominent Black figures that shaped Holyoke by visiting our archives!
“We’re so excited to highlight Black lives from Holyoke and around Massachusetts in this outdoor exhibit.” Says director Megan Seiler, “We hope visitors and passersby will enjoy the art while learning about some of these interesting people from the Commonwealth.”
The vibrant, canvas backdrops for these portraits you see on Faces on the Fenceline were made by the community at our Juneteenth celebration this summer, adding a unique and sentimental touch to this exhibit. This outdoor display is an opportunity for everyone in our community to explore the rich history and contributions of notable Black figures who have shaped our city, Massachusetts, and history as a whole. We invite you to experience this free and visually stunning exhibit by strolling past the museum on Beech Street. Our grounds and gardens are open to the public every day from dawn to dusk so that everyone can explore, discover, and engage with the Faces on the Fenceline exhibit!
