April 3, 2022 -Springfield- Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni’s youth summer job fair and 3-on-3 basketball tournament – Hoop Up Springfield – returns on Monday, April 17, 2023 at American International College. The daylong event will offer a fun and safe environment for about 100 pre-registered youth, from ages 11-18, to enjoy an organized basketball tournament, but also to learn about summer employment opportunities and to interact and apply directly with employers.

The job fair will be conducted before the tournament for participants 15 years old and older, and will allow participants to meet with potential employers and receive a job readiness packet. All participants will also go on a campus tour provided by American International College.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni stated, “We use basketball to get kids in the door, but while they are here, we try to line them up with a summer job and expose them to a college environment right in their backyard. Studies have shown that summer jobs help to reduce crime among youth and young adults. By assisting our young people in finding summer employment, it will keep them constructively engaged during the summer while providing them with a professional experience and connection that they will carry with them into adulthood.”

Employers who will be on-site to interview potential employees for the summer are: Six Flags, Massachusetts State Police Cadet Program, Springfield Police Department  Cadet Program, City of Chicopee, City of Springfield, Comcast, Pa’lante Restorative Justice, Suit Up Springfield, Dress for Success, Performance Food Group, BJ’s Wholesale.

Please see the attached flyer for more information or to register.

If you are an employer who wishes to participate, you can contact the Hampden District Attorney’s Office at 413-747-1000 and ask for the Community Outreach Unit.
