Storytimes with Llama Llama Celebrate National Library Card Month

The Springfield City Library is set to host several events featuring the children’s book character Llama Llama, made popular by author Anna Dewdney. The events will include llama-inspired stories, activities, crafts and more. The schedule of events is as follows:

 

Brightwood Branch Library: Friday, September 14 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Central Library Children’s Room: Thursday, September 20 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

East Forest Park Branch Library: Friday, September 21 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

East Springfield Branch Library: Saturday, September 22 from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.

Forest Park Branch Library: Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Indian Orchard Branch Library: Monday, Sept. 17 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Mason Square Branch Library: Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

 

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Library Card Sign-up Month, a national observance that was launched to ensure every that child obtain a library card to use. As noted by the American Library Association, “Throughout the school year, public librarians and library staff will assist parents and caregivers with saving hundreds of dollars on educational resources and services for students. From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help, technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost effective back to school supplies available. “
