In 2021, a large group of Mexican midwives published a press release about rebozos, a traditional scarf used for centuries to assist women in pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. Rebozos are hand-loomed, from natural fibers, each unique, and are seen as sacred.

There’s an ongoing project at Springfield College that is focused on learning from the histories of Puerto Rican families in the City of Springfield. In the spring of 2024, a conference titled Fostering Inclusion and Equity in Latina/o Children and Families in Their Welfare in the Greater Springfield Area will be held.

As I look back over 2023, I smile at the life God has blessed my family and me with!! I traveled, I fellowshipped with family and friends, I started a new job from which I will retire and I was part of a life changing movement in the city of Springfield.

Holding a Hurst for Mayor sign and yelling “One City” the night before the election, two thoughts crossed my mind. First, I was thankful I wore my gloves. Secondly, I hoped that with my 12-year-old son waving, no one would yell an insult or throw something out of their window.
